One of the first places we ate after moving to Anchorage. I am very picky about my Pad Thai and how it is made. Thai Village is very interesting set up. From the outside you would not expect much, the inside decor is even more interesting. The lining of the window sills inside Thai Village are lined with National Geographic magazines and art work of Thailand. Do not let the decor fool you about the food quality. Prices are average for the Anchorage area being between $10 - $15+ depending on the dish. Also, I recommend sticking with water, or you will be paying for each can of soda. Don't worry the portion sizes are more than enough for one person, plus take home.
Fried tofu along with the sweet peanut accented sauce is wonderful. The tofu is not mushy or overly chewy which can be a problem in some restaurants. The sweet dipping sauce with peanut accents really sets this appetizer off.
The Pad Thai, "Pad Thai, literally 'Thai style frying,' is a Thai noodle dish made from stir fried rice noodles with ingredients including egg, peanuts, shallots, sprouts, tofu, and a choice of meat" (McMahon, 2013).
The Pad Thai offered at Thai Village is seasoned perfectly and not overly greasy that can be a problem in some places. Also the balance of the fish sauce is very subtle and untraceable in this dish. The blend of seasoning with the accent of peanuts sets this dish off. If you love spicy food you can also get this dish spicy. Still not hot enough use the extra spices provided to spice it up some more.
They also offer a dish called sidewalk noodles that you can build yourself. You can chose your meat, chicken, pork or beef, your noodles and your spice level. The taste is a combination of sweet and tangy that mixes beautifully. If you have a younger child that is not as experimental with their food but you still want to try here, try sidewalk noodles non spicy.
I really enjoyed Thai Village and recommend it to anyone looking for a good Thai restaurant.
