Great Alaskan Pizza Company, Anchorage, AK

Great Alaskan Pizza Company
Address: 9001 Jewel Lake Rd, Anchorage, AK 99502
Phone:(907) 248-3733

Ordered close to Thanksgiving.
The first pizza that we bought was a take-out deal and 9.99 special that they offer.  While the first was so good that we went home ate it and ordered another it was soon to be a one hit wonder.  Company does offer military discount on some menu items.
Take Two:
Cheesy Deal
$25.99 2 Large Pizzas
Delivery Special,  2-Large 2 toppings on each $25.99

I ordered the Pizza an hour before our movie was sent to begin. I was told it would be at our home in “under an hour”. I started calling at an hour and fifteen minutes after ordering. I finally got a person on the phone after calling for over a half an hour, hung up on once, and disconnected twice. Two hours later I received my luke warm pizza that was just not edible. We were told we would get a refund; I have yet to see it. In addition, my daughter who had a different pizza from me became very sick in the middle of the night.  If you are living on post and want a delivery, I recommend Domino's, at least then you can track your order. If you are driving by and want a pizza to take home then flip a coin.  I cannot say that I will chance this pizza joint again.

Spenard Roadhouse, Anchorage, AK

Spenard Roadhouse
1049 W Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage, AK 99503
(907) 770-7623

Disclaimer: Being three months pregnant and everything but a select amount of foods making me sick, eating out has become a great challenge.

Walking into Spenard Roadhouse, you are greeted with a warm smile and a warm environment.  Interesting artwork; many moose pieces, decorate the walls. Once seated and food is selected pick up the Sweets menu, which describes their veteran bar staff. This is how we found out that Orion was our waiter. Orion was the most energetic and amusing waiter I have experienced in a long time.In addition, this restaurant also serves and buys Alaskan grown fresh foods. What ever is in season that can be used on the menu is bought and used. I love it when people support local economy!

ROADHOUSE BURGER*

add cheddar, swiss or bleu cheese 1.50
add bacon, avocado, pepper jack, or cambozola 2.00

BLUE CORN CHIPS AND SALSA
   4

Okay, let me start with our appetizer the blue corn chips and salsa. These come out covered in two different types of cheese, jalapenos, cilantro and a cilantro drizzle mix, sour cream and salsa on the side.  I enjoyed this so much I was almost dancing…actually I lie, I was dancing. Please refer back to the disclaimer. I was not only happy that I could enjoy the food but I was lucky enough to enjoy something that tasted this good! Even with all the wonderful toppings smothered across this plate of wonderfulness the chips stayed crispy. The salsa that is on the side is also mixed with cilantro, but it is not cilantro overkill. The acid from the salsa mixes well with the cheese on the chips and balances it very nicely! Feeds two adults nicely.

The Roadhouse burger is your basic burger, but the seasoning that is used sets this burger on a whole new level. I never thought to use thousand island on my burger as a condiment but with this burgers seasoning it balances nicely. This is also a big burger, I had to cut mine in half and take the half home to enjoy later. I also selected the tator tots, which they serve in a super version for a few bucks extra. I was not going to push my luck on this wonderful meal, so I stuck with the basic.

Once our meal was over and I was not only able to keep it down but had enjoyed everything so much, I wanted to cry and hug our waiter Orion. Orion also never let our drinks get lower than a half a glass, packed my leftovers up for me and was just the friendliest, energetic waiter I have seen in a long time.
I loved this place it was wonderful!

On 1/01/2014 - Tried the Avocado sandwich with sprouts, cucumber and tomato and a spicy spread. It was wonderful. I had without the additional meat option, my daughter added chicken. Both were so filing we had to save half for later.

OK, I know there is a lot of hype about this restaurant....It is so worth it!!! We happen to hit Moose's the Moose’s tooth on a busy weekend day and the wait and the service was still good.  Above is the two items that we chose to dine on. The Margherita Pizza was amazing! Even with baked garlic resting on top of this pizza it was not overwhelming at all.  We selected a medium for the three of us. Keep in mind my 11 year old girl eats like a 15 year old boy during a growth spurt, and it was plenty to fill us up.
In addition to this we ordered a pitcher of root beer. I am not a fan of root beer usually but this is not your ordinary root beer. This root beer is made by moose’s tooth along with several of their own ales. I tried some of this root beer and it was great, best I ever had and cannot be compared to store bought. The fresh flavors and herbal blends including the ginger undertones blend together for an amazing experience.
Moose’s Tooth beers also need to be experienced! I recommend the sampler. You can select five different beers from their menu. They will bring out what looks to be close to 6oz of each of your selection to sample.  I cannot say which I found to be the best because they were all individually great. My husband and I both had the sampler and chose different beers this way we could sample more. We were not let down from their rich Amber beers to the classic Pale Ale it was all very tasty and highly recommended!

Set on a little creek with the appearance of a wooded area, this old school diner and takeout restaurant is good. The history and pictures that line the walls will to keep you in entertained in the short time it takes your food to come out and after you get done eating.
I highly recommend the salmon burgers. At first I will be honest; this did not sound very appealing fish as a burger, but when in Rome. The flavor, texture and overall appearance of this burger was great. They also serve onion rings and fries along with many different kinds of deserts. There is a huge selection of options including the basic burger. If the basic burger is anything like the salmon burger, you will not be disappointed.
Make sure you bring cash! Prices range between $10 - $15+ depending on how you build your meal. they do run specials that include drinks and side. If the special is not what you are looking for then be ready to pay for each item separately.
When selecting a set I recommend a booth close the window overlooking the stream. It is a very nice view, and not to mention relaxing.

Ding How Mongolian BBQ, Anchorage, AK

Ding How Mongolian BBQ
1241 Muldoon Rd Anchorage, AK 99504

Good location and typical decorations both outside and in. Prices range between $10 - $15+ for lunch menu including buffet. The lunch buffet that is offered includes very basic Chinese food selection and a freshly made food on a giant stone. For this option you grab a bowl add the ingredients that you choose and hand it to the chef that prepares it on the cook stone.
While the food is OK, I would not recommend eating here then running errands afterwards. In addition to this if you are watching your sodium levels I would steer clear of here also. The Chinese buffet selection appeared to have sat there for a long time no matter what time visited. The fresh option will leave you needing a gallon of water, an IV in addition to Imodium afterwards.

It is not my intention to rank these restaurants, just let you know my experience and let you judge for yourself.
